Sarah and Alex’s beautiful Alswick Barn wedding was great fun, and took place last November surrounded by the colours of the lovely autumn leaves
When Sarah and Alex first got in touch with me about their Alswick Barn wedding in Buntingford, I was so excited! They were planning a romantic autumnal wedding with an intimate ceremony at this beautiful barn venue and I couldn’t wait to hear all about it. I caught up with them over a coffee earlier in 2018 to hear all about their plans, and I was so excited when they asked me to be a part of their celebrations.
On the day
I arrived at the Alswick Barn, where the wedding was taking place, and there was such a sense of excitement as Alex was greeting his guests and mingling with everyone. Sarah had been getting ready in the bridal prep area above the snug, and she was excited but a little nervous when I popped up to see her and take a few shots of her with her two bridesmaids. She looked absolutely beautiful in a gown by Anna Sorrano, and with her lovely bouquet which had been put together by a family friend.
The wedding
The wedding was a civil ceremony, which took place in the main Barn. They had readings from family members and friends, which was lovely. Emotions were definitely running high as the couple exchanged their vows and there were definitely a few tears being dabbed away by mums, dads and grandparents in the first couple of rows!
Just as the ceremony was taking place, the heavens opened completely, so the plan for an outdoor confetti throw immediately after the ceremony went out the window entirely! Sarah and Alex, along with their family and friends, had spent countless hours painstakingly hand-making confetti shapes punched from autumn leaves, so we had to make sure we could throw it! Luckily the lovely team at the Alswick Barn were more than happy to let the confetti throwing happen indoors, so the new Mr & Mrs were showered with autumn leaves as they made their way back down the aisle.
Because of the dodgy weather, we decided to do the group photographs indoors, just before the Alswick team set up the room for the wedding breakfast. I couldn’t believe our luck when I saw that the sun had poked it’s head out for some portrait photos of the couple in the gorgeous gardens of Alswick Hall, it would have been such a shame to miss the opportunity of capturing the stunning autumnal colours of the beautiful gardens. Luckily we had a bit of time before we lost all the daylight.
The Reception
The wedding reception took place in the snug and bar area of Alswick, whilst the team set up the room for dinner. All the guests enjoyed sipping champagne and mingling and chatting, so I took the opportunity to capture some of these moments.
Everyone sat down for a delicious meal, once I’d had a chance to capture the full set up of the barn. Sarah and Alex had put so much attention to detail into their wedding details, from the handmade wine charm favour place names, to the tables, which were named for different walks that they had done together in the UK (complete with the elevation line which I thought was clever!). They also provided little origami birds for their guests to create themselves whilst they were waiting for their food – it was a lovely touch.
Once dinner was finished, the speeches began, and it was lovely to hear such heartfelt words from everyone (including the bride herself).
After cutting the cake expertly made by Sarah’s mum, it was time for drinks and mingling before the DJ set up and it was party time! Sarah and Alex even popped outside the entrance to the barn for a very quick evening portrait – they were excellent sports despite a bit of drizzle and we captured a lovely shot of them cuddling in the golden light of the Alswick Barn courtyard.
