Down Hall is a stunning mansion house set on the Hertfordshire Essex border
Emily and Ian got married in May at the spectacular Down Hall Hotel, which is a beautiful country house in Hatfield Heath, Essex. It was a beautiful day (for most of the time!), and despite a huge thunderstorm during dinner, the sun shone for all the important bits of the day!
I first met Emily at an exercise class and we got chatting – I was delighted when she asked me to capture her and Ian’s Down Hall wedding. You can take a look at their pre-wedding shot here.
Getting ready
Emily got ready at Down Hall with her family and bridesmaids, and the atmosphere was really lovely. Emily had her sister as her maid of honour and her cousin as a bridesmaid as well as some friends, and lots of flower girls too, so there was lots going on in the morning!
Emily wore a gorgeous dress by Suzanne Neville and Ian wore a blue suit with a printed bow tie and they looked amazing. Emily’s flowers complemented the peach and blush tones of the day and it all came together beautifully.
The ceremony
The ceremony took place in a beautiful room at the venue. It looked gorgeous with stunning floral displays set up just for the couple. During the ceremony some family members delivered readings, which was lovely. It was a beautiful way of involving everyone in the ceremony and really personal.
The afternoon
The reception was out in Down Hall’s beautiful gardens, where the guests mingled and enjoyed canapés and garden games. After some group photographs and couples portraits, it was time for the wedding breakfast. The reception room also looked absolutely stunning with more beautiful florals in blush tones. I also loved their wedding favours of pink macaroons and Gin and Tonic!
The couple were announced in by their toastmaster to much cheering from their guests, and it was then time for the meal! Luck was on our side as the heavens opened during dinner – I don’t mind rain at a wedding if it’s as perfectly timed as that! It helped things cool off a little as it was really warm throughout the day.
The evening
After some brilliant speeches, there was more mingling and merriment with cocktails, before the cutting of the incredible wedding cake! The couple also went for smaller individual cupcakes alongside their beautiful four-tiered wedding cake. I especially loved the little foxes that decorated the vanilla cupcakes (a reference to the couple’s surname, Fox!).
Once the cake was cut, the evening merriment could commence! The couple enjoyed their first dance, which was followed by an excellent live band who kept the dance floor moving. I really love live bands at a wedding, I love live music, and there’s nothing quite like dancing along to a band after a few glasses of prosecco! There was also much merriment with the throwing of Emily’s the bouquet, which took place twice!!
I’m sure you’ll agree that Emily and Ian’s wedding was really beautiful. If you’re having a Down Hall wedding, get in touch!
