Relaxed Henry Moore Foundation Tipi Wedding in Hertfordshire | Katie & Richard

Katie and Richard got married last summer in a relaxed tipi wedding in Hertfordshire at the awesome Henry Moore Foundation, which is a quirky and artistic barn venue in Perry Green, Hertfordshire.

Katie and Richard met when Richards work with England Rugby took him to Katie’s school where she worked as a P.E. teacher, and the rest is history! They got in touch with me after we met at a local wedding fair and I was super excited about their enquiry as I’d heard of the Henry Moore Foundation before and thought it would be an incredible place to get married. The more I heard about the plans for their wedding the more excited I got about it – tipis, hand crafted details and bright sunflowers… it all sounded amazing! They were a very relaxed couple, and I think that’s why we clicked – they’re quite similar to me!

Getting Ready

I began the day with Katie at the couples home, where she was getting ready with her lovely bridesmaids. It was a really chilled out morning, and the bubbles were flowing as Katie and the girls were pampered as they got ready for the celebrations ahead. Katie was driven to the ceremony in her dad’s classic car, and her bridesmaids delivered safely in a quirky camper van!

Relaxed Tipi Wedding in Hertfordshire

They chose The Henry Moore Foundation because they loved the artistic history and sculptures surrounding the venue and they were able to personalise it to have the chilled, country tipi wedding they were after. I love shooting weddings at The Henry Moore Foundation because the venue is so unusual and the surroundings are completely stunning. The venue houses some of Henry Moore’s most precious sculptures and artworks, including tapestries in the Aisled Barn. If you know Henry Moore’s work, it’s a really special place to be, and even if you’re not that familiar with it, the huge sculptures that sit in the grounds provide an amazing backdrop for your photos! It was a little bit rainy during the day but Katie and Richard were still really up for having lots of photos in the grounds which I was delighted about!

The Ceremony

The wedding itself was an intimate affair in the Aisled Barn on the grounds of the venue. During the ceremony Katie’s nephew was a very proud ring-bearer!. It was so sweet! After the couples exchanged vows and rings and became husband and wife, it was time for a quick confetti throw outside – always one of my favourite parts of the day!

They decorated the venue with homemade paper cranes painstakingly made by Katie and her bridesmaids, and the wedding favours were homemade sloe and blackberry gin. Katie really wanted to add a personal touch to the decor, and she also did this by making table runners, standing sunflowers in gin bottles (the couples favourite tipple!) and the tables were named after Katie and Richard’s favourite sports venues that they’d attended together – in a nod to their sporting backgrounds! For their wedding breakfast, they served some delicious platters of food, provided by the local pub, which were loved by all the guests.

Katie wore Santina, a dress by Watters that she bought from London Bride Couture and Richard wore a tweed waistcoat and jacket with a white shirt, black chinos and brown shoes and they looked so incredible. Katie’s shoes were simple flat sandals and her’s flowers were bright sunflowers with bee charms – as Katie loves bees!

Advice from the couple…

Katie and Richard say that if you’re planning your wedding, the biggest piece of advice they could give you is to make sure there are elements of you as part of your wedding. They said that afterwards, their guests said how personal the wedding seemed to the two of them and that it was so ‘Them’.
