Luxury Wedding Cakes in Hertfordshire – Meadowsweet Cakes

This week, it’s time to talk about on of my favourite wedding topics… CAKE!!

I am lucky enough to have made many amazing friends in the wedding industry locally, and one of those is the lovely Nina from Meadowsweet Cakes.

Nina creates beautiful, luxury wedding cakes, decorated with highly detailed sugar flowers. I’m lucky enough to be able to report first hand just delicious they are! I captured Nina’s branding shoot earlier this year and have photographed several of her gorgeous cakes, both at styled shoots and real weddings. She also made my daughter’s first birthday cake and my mum’s 60th birthday cake!

In this post, Nina gives us a bit more information about her business, her brand, and her cakes!

Hi Nina! Introduce yourself and tell me a little more about you!

Hello! I am Nina, and I live in a picturesque little town in Hertfordshire with my husband and two little boys. Being fully surrounded by boys 90% of the time has made me a massive football fan (I play AND watch football matches, haven’t missed a Liverpool game in a long time!). I also love Marvel superhero films, and recently completed a Marvel watching marathon with the boys – watching all 20 of them in the right order before the new one was released (not all in one go though!).

Making cakes is my happy place and I really enjoy every second of what I do.

And tell me more about your business…

Creativity is the heart and soul of my business. Flowers are a big passion of mine and feature in most of my designs. I love modern touches, with clean lines and colours that defy tradition, and a bit of a minimalist approach that I often take.

How long have you been in business and how did you get to where you are now?

I started making cakes over 7 years ago, but I didn’t turn it into a business until we had moved outside of London. London life was far too stressful for me to focus on family and business together. Once we moved into the countryside, I decided to chase that dream of making beautiful creations for people’s happiest occasions.

What is your biggest business highlight?

Winning a silver award at Cake International, for my first ever entry that I only started making 3 days before it was due. This was the first time I felt I must have been doing something right, and it gave me a massive confidence boost.

What is your favourite type of wedding to work at?

A happy, excited couple, who come to me with the confidence that I can create exactly what they’re looking for. They want the best – the most ethically sourced ingredients, and the most beautiful design that perfectly matches their style and tells their story. They appreciate the craft and have an eye for beautiful details and exquisite handmade flowers.

What top tips would you give a couple organising their big day?

Don’t feel like you have to find the perfect cake ahead of meeting your designer! Our job is to talk to you, look at lots of inspirational materials, and have an in depth conversation about your style before we create the design that is the perfect fit for you and your wedding.

What are you most looking forward to in the year ahead?

I am working on some amazing weddings and styled shoots this year, can’t wait to get started on them!
