If you love beautiful floral details at a wedding, then you’ll love this Maiden’s Barn Wedding!

Hannah and Ben got married last summer and celebrated at the gorgeous Maidens Barn, Essex. It was an absolutely scorching Maiden’s Barn wedding, on the hottest day of the year!

Hannah got ready at Pontlands Park near Chelmsford with her sisters, friends, and parents, and there was such a happy vibe, despite the heat! It was the hottest day of the year and there were lots of fans going to try and keep everyone cool! Hannah wore a beautiful gown from Bellisima Weddings in Chelmsford, and looked absolutely beautiful. One of my favourite moments of the day was when Hannah’s dad saw her in her dress for the first time – he was really emotional! After a few quick portraits outside the hotel, Hannah and her dad then jumped into a fancy wedding car to get to the ceremony, followed by her bridesmaids.

Ben got ready at the couples home with his groomsmen. He wore a traditional suit from Anthony Formal Wear in Billericay, and looked very dapper indeed. The boys travelled to the ceremony by car – but got their Range Rovers appropriately dressed for the occasion with wedding ribbons! I really felt for the boys all day as they were in three piece suits, which is usually a tall order for any summer wedding, but it really was SO hot! They did amazingly well to keep their layers on all day!

The ceremony

The ceremony took place at a church in Braintree. It was so hot that as guests arrived they were provided with water and pink paper fans to help them keep nice and cool. The service began with Hannah walking down the aisle alongside her beaming dad, who was so proud of his little girl and smiling from ear to ear all day! At the end of the ceremony, Hannah’s friend sang for everyone – which was really personal and lovely. It was a wonderful ceremony, full of so much love and Hannah definitely couldn’t stop smiling!

After the ceremony, I left the couple to mingle, which was the perfect time for me to get candid photos. Then we travelled to the reception, which was a little bit of a drive, but such a great time for the newly married couple to have some time together to let it all sink in! We welcomed Hannah and Ben back to the venue with a confetti throw, which I always absolutely love to do. After a bit more mingling, I took some lovely group photos in front of the archway at Maidens Barn. It had been decked with an incredible floral display by Eden Floral Design so it looked really wonderful. I think it’s really important to get some group photographs, and it was lovely to have such a special backdrop! It was so hot and muggy outside that standing out there for portraits was almost too much! But everyone did so well, the weather was so hot (I believe it hit 32 degrees!). We got a few couples portraits done too – I was absolutely boiling so I can only imagine how hot it was for Ben in his suit and Hannah in her gorgeous (but very big!) dress!

The reception

Maidens Barn is an old barn, and it’s got such a romantic feel to it, especially in the main room where the dinner is held. Unusually for a barn venue, the main room was air-conditioned which was an absolute godsend, as the weather was so muggy on the day, it made the meal a lot more comfortable for everyone.

Everyone was then called in for the wedding breakfast, and on the tables were little mini quizzes and trivia which helped to break the ice between people who didn’t know each other. Once everyone was seated, it was time for dinner, which was absolutely delicious.

Hannah and Ben decided to have speeches after the dessert was served. The speeches were really funny – Hannah’s dad told some amusing stories about when she was little, and Ben’s best man had a few tales to tell too which went down very well!

During the meal there was a torrential downpour – the weather had been so muggy that I was sure that it would rain at some point and it certainly did come down! At least everyone was sheltering indoors for the meal when it happened!

The evening

After the speeches, the couple cut the cake, and the dance-floor kicked off. The live band played all the best songs to get everyone dancing, and guests tucked into the sweetie table and the evening buffet which included cheese tower!

The whole wedding was just the happiest occasion, from the exchange of vows at the church to the awesome live band. It was my first time working at Maiden’s Barn and I absolutely loved it – the staff were so lovely and the food was delicious. It’s such a beautiful setting for a wedding reception, with gorgeous outdoor spaces and beautiful barns.

I loved this Maiden’s Barn wedding so much. If you’re getting married and looking for a Maiden’s Barn wedding photographer, please do get in touch.
