‘We absolutely love the photos. All of our friends and family have commented on how it really captured the day. I never thought anyone could capture the emotions in a photo and you managed it perfectly.’
Clare and Drew got married at the lovely Milling Barn, Buntingford, this May. It was a relaxed and rustic super fun Milling Barn wedding, with succulents all over the tables and lots of personal DIY touches everywhere.
Getting ready
Clare got ready in the dedicated dressing room at Milling Barn with all her lovely bridesmaids, and there was such a relaxed vibe with giggles, bucks fizz and tunes playing from the word go! Clare wasn’t really nervous, she was just SUPER excited and did a little happy dance as she put her dress on. In fact, all the girls were having a bit of a boogie to the dance classics that were playing, once they were all ready and waiting for the ceremony to start!
Clare wore a lovely gown by Stella York, which she got from The Tailor’s Cat in Cambridge, and looked so beautiful. The girls then walked the short distance to get to the ceremony. Meanwhile, I headed to the ceremony room to say hi to Drew and see how he was getting on.
Drew got ready at Milling Barn too. Whilst I was with the girls, he was busy making sure everything was perfect in the barn. He wore a bespoke grey three piece suit from Reiss, and I particularly liked his tie and pocket square, and looked really handsome.
The ceremony
The ceremony took place in the Dairy Barn at the venue. It began with a few tears when the couple saw each other for the first time at the end of the aisle, and during a lovely reading. It was a really lovely ceremony, full of so much love and private smiles. Despite having been to so many weddings, I still get emotional sometimes when it’s so clear how much the couple are in love, and particularly when tears start flowing. Drew needed a tissue a couple of times during the ceremony, as did Clare – and it was just so clear how in love these two are. I absolutely loved capturing that love.
After the ceremony, Clare and Drew were showered with confetti along the long arch outside Milling Barn, which made for some great photos. Then we took a few quick family photos, which was followed by some mingling. Clare and Drew’s dog Harris came along for a quick photo opportunity too and it was lovely to see him bouncing around and greeting all the guests!
I got some stunning couples photos with Clare and Drew as the guests were being seated – it’s the perfect time to do it at this point as the couple are just waiting to be announced in, and it means they don’t miss the drinks reception and mingling time! We spent some time taking photos by the large oak tree opposite the venue, which Clare and Drew were particularly keen to include as it had been inspiration for their invitations and stationery. The weather was a little bit cloudy,, but that was perfect for photos!
The reception
Everyone was then called in for the wedding breakfast, which was proper wedding grub. It was delicious. The speeches took place after the dinner, and they were absolutely hilarious! Drew only had one best man, but all his ushers took turns to stand up and regale us with tales of Drew throughout the ages. It was bloody hilarious and poor Drew spent most of the time with his head in his hands, and I was laughing out loud behind my camera!
The evening
After dinner and a quick evening turnaround, they had their first dance. The dance floor was a very popular place to be. The DJ played all the best songs to get everyone dancing. Despite a cloudy day, the evening sun poked it head out over the field at the back of Milling Barn and we had some lovely photos at sunset, which was beautiful.
The evening ended with sparklers, which was brilliant. It was lovely to see Clare and Drew enjoying a moment with sparklers and all their friends gathered around. The whole wedding was so much fun, from the moment I stepped into bridal prep to the end of the evening. Clare and Drew felt like friends and it was so lovely to be a part of their day and to get to know their lovely guests throughout the wedding too.
