Laura and Tom got hitched in Hertfordshire last summer, and they
enjoyed a gorgeous sunny day with smiles all day long.
Today I’m excited to feature this lovely August Milling Barn wedding, featuring the lovely Laura and Tom. You may have seen me blog about their pre-wedding shoot last week – you can see that post here.
When Laura and Tom first got in touch with me about their Milling Barn wedding in Hertfordshire, I was so thrilled – they were planning such a fun countryside wedding with plenty of Pimms, a live band and even a bagpiper at the ceremony! Laura and Tom seemed like the loveliest people and I really couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding.
Getting ready
I began the morning at the couples home, where the bride was getting ready, and it was so much fun, because I got to work with my good friend Claire from Barberella Bridal Hair, who always creates such gorgeous bridal styles. Laura’s hair styling was no exception and featured lovely braids and little thistle details in her hair to match the wedding flowers and buttonholes. She looked amazing in her gorgeous lace gown. I absolutely loved the florals from the day – Laura chose bright sunny sunflowers which I think perfectly matched her sunny personality, and purple thistles to reference the Scottish heritage of Tom’s family. Once ready, Laura and her bridesmaids and parents travelled to the church in a white wedding taxi.
The serious part
The wedding took place at the church just around the corner from their home, and was a intimate religious ceremony. They had some beautiful readings, which everyone enjoyed. The vicar was great fun and I particularly loved her cheeky thumbs up to the couple signalling they could seal their vows with a kiss! After the ceremony they were accompanied down the aisle by the (very loud!) bagpiper, and then we did a confetti tunnel outside the church door which was a lovely celebratory moment. Everyone took some time for hugs and mingling outside the church in the gorgeous sunshine, and lots of cars beeped their congratulations as they drove by!
The afternoon
The wedding reception took place at Milling Barn, which is a lovely barn venue in Buntingford that I’ve worked at many times before (see more here!). It was a beautifully sunny day, which was what the couple had hoped for. While the guests enjoyed canapés and cocktails, Laura, Tom and I popped away for some portrait photos. My favourite photo from our couples session is the one of Laura and Tom laughing in front of the barn door. These two are just so smiley and so much fun, it was a joy to photograph them! I did embarrass myself a little attempting to climb over a fence, especially when I realised there was a gate just a little further along! *facepalm*
During the reception they had a live acoustic band, which went down a storm. The Kicks offered awesome acoustic music for the reception drinks with their mobile set up, and they mingled around with the guests, which was a lovely touch, as they were also there for the evening, so everyone had seen them earlier in the day which was great.
For the wedding breakfast they had proper wedding grub, and it was super yummy. After dinner there were a few speeches, then everyone migrated to the bar and guests made the most of the photobooth. I love the photo I captured of Laura and Tom cutting their cake – and Laura stuffing Tom’s face with it! Their first dance was also very entertaining – the couple really enjoyed themselves before all the guests were encouraged to pile onto the dancefloor.
The couple
Laura and Tom met many years ago when they used to work together, and he popped the question at Laura’s current work – she is a teacher and he came into an assembly to get down on one knee in front of the whole school!
