Q&A with Bedfordshire Wedding Cake Maker La Belle Cake Company
It was a lovely day in Bedfordshire a couple of months ago when I spent a few hours with the lovely Michelle from Bedfordshire based La Belle Cake Company. She was preparing for the Tribal Styled Shoot that we collaborated on in February and I went along to capture some images of her hard at work, and to have a chat over a cup of tea!
Hi Michelle! Tell me a bit about La Belle Cake Company…
La Belle Cake Company is the areas leading award winning leading designer of luxury wedding cakes. As the area’s most prominent name in cake design we create cakes of uncompromising excellence and unrivalled prestige. Our cakes are not only visually stunning but also taste delicious. And what about you, the lady behind the business?
I’m Michelle Shulman and I live in the village of Eaton Bray with my husband, two girls and three dogs.
When I’m not working I love walking, catching up with friends and losing myself in a good book. I’m a huge Take That fan but people are always surprised by my music library. They tend to prejudge based on my Take That addiction but I have everything from Etta James, Bon Jovi, Metalica, some happy hardcore and even Mozart. The music I listen to really depends on my mood that day!
How long have you been in business and how did you get to where you are now?
I have been in business 12 years this year. I started by baking cakes for my girls who are now 17 and 14 and one thing lead to another and the rest is history. Its taken a LOT of hard graft, blood sweat and tears but has been worth every minute.
What is your biggest business highlight to date?
My biggest business highlight has to be my first royal commission but I love my job so much that literally every day is a highlight.
What is your favourite type of wedding cake to create?
My favourite type of order is one where the client fully trusts my vision and gives me complete full rein on their cake design. That is always when you will get the best form me.
What top tips would you give a couple organising their big day?
My top tip – relax and enjoy it. What will be will be and remember that ultimately its about you and your partner and the vows you will take.
What are you most looking forward to in the year ahead?
Business wise I am looking forward to taking my business to the next level with the help of an amazing business coach my over the top goals are now completely in reach.
