De Vere Theobalds Estate Wedding Photographer – Emma and Matt

Emma and Matt had a gorgeous sunny winters day for their November wedding, and it was so much fun!

Theobalds Estate WeddingEmma and Matt got married in November 2017 at the grand De Vere Theobalds Estate, which is an elegant country house in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire.  I previously posted about their misty morning engagement shoot in Barnet, which you can see again here.

Getting ready

The morning of the wedding dawned bright and sunny and I was so excited as I drove the short distance from Welwyn Garden City down to De Vere Theobalds Estate. Emma got ready in the bridal suite at Theobalds Estate with her mum and bridesmaids. As I mentioned in the Engagement shoot post, I actually know Emma from growing up in the same town and attending the same schools, so I knew a few of the bridesmaids too and it was lovely to catch up with everyone!  Emma was very relaxed, although she did get a little emotional as the reality of her big day set in the closer she got to being ready. Wedding preparations are just so exciting!

Because Emma and Matt were getting ready in the same venue, after capturing some details and the action with the girls I also stopped by to grab a few shots of  Matt with his best man in the main hotel area of Theobalds Estate. It’s always nice when I can stop by and see the groom before the ceremony if logistics allow! I captured some shots of the boys doing up their ties and getting smartened up before heading back up to Emma to capture the final touches of her preparations. Emma and her dad then hopped into a lovely old Rolls Royce to take them to the ceremony.

The wedding

The wedding itself was a Catholic ceremony at a church in Cheshunt. During the ceremony Emmas friend played the flute as she made her entrance, and there were three readings by friends and family of the bride and groom. It was so emotional to see Emma and Matt’s family looking on so proudly, and the way Emma looked at Matt during the service was lovely, it was like all she could see was him. One of Emma’s brothers also sang during the signing of the register, which was a lovely moment.

After the ceremony everyone made their way outside into the lovely winter sunshine, and then headed back to De Vere Theobalds Estate for the rest of the festivities.

Theobalds Estate wedding

The reception was back at De Vere Theobalds Estate and they had a cocktail drinks reception on arrival, waiting for the bride and groom to arrive back from the church. Once Emma and Matt arrived back in their lovely wedding car, they were greeted by a big shower of confetti! We then took the opportunity to take some quick formal photos outside the venue. It was a lovely day but very chilly for everyone to be stood outside, so we kept it nice and speedy!

I grabbed Emma and Matt for some quick couples portraits at this point. In November the sun disappears very quickly, but we were lucky enough to get a lovely nugget of golden sun just before it set – I did a little happy dance when I saw it peeking out over the trees! I love shooting Theobalds Estate weddings because there’s such a lovely area for photographs outside, even in the winter! I particularly love the gorgeous staircase – great for bridal portraits – so we stopped there for a few shots too!

Emma and Matt decorated the venue with photographs and flowers, and it looked lovely. The guests were entertained during the by an excellent three piece band during the drinks reception, called A Pocket Full of Swing.

Then after a receiving line, it was time for everyone to take their seats for dinner. Speeches followed, and one of Emma’s brother sang and played guitar in a song in tribute to the couple, which as really lovely. The first dance was lovely, and was followed by Emma and her dad dancing to one of my favourite Fleetwood Mac tracks.

Later in the evening, the couple finished off the evening with a sparkler exit, which was so pretty!

The couple

Emma wore a beautiful dress from her local bridal shop and Matt wore a suit with tails and a white waistcoat. Emma’s flowers were really pretty and colourful, and really suited the style of the day.

Emma and Matt met at university and have been together many years. They got in touch with me earlier in the year I was so excited to photograph their Theobalds Estate Wedding as I’ve known Emma for years. We grew up in the same town, so it was lovely to see her getting married, and see so many familiar faces at the wedding!

Emma and Matt’s wedding was gorgeous and they’re such a great couple. Here’s their Theobalds Estate wedding for you to enjoy!
